- Q: How are federal withholding taxes reported and calculated?
-
A: The Company will report a winner of a Trip Prize to the IRS after the event is completed, as required under federal law. For U.S. citizens, the Federal Government requires lottery winnings be reported to the IRS for tax purposes if an individual wins $600 or more, or the winnings are subject to federal income tax withholding (winnings greater than $5,000).
The tax withholding rate for the Trip Prize is 24% for winnings that are greater than $5,000. If you have questions regarding the tax consequences of winning any Texas Lottery game, including a Promotional Second-Chance Drawing, we recommend that you consult with your own accountant or tax advisor. For prizes with values less than $600 a claim form is not required, and the value is not reported to the IRS for tax purposes. These prizes will be immediately fulfilled by the vendor upon receipt of the winners list from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The GSE Event is being administered by SG. Any questions regarding the GSE Event, including questions regarding the assignment of proxies, GSE Event Cash Prize payments, and tax liability or withholding for GSE Event Cash Prizes, will be directed to an SG Prize Coordinator at time of Trip Prize claim. Participation in the GSE Event may be subject to other local, state and federal laws, including the laws of the State of California.
- Q: Can I change my mind and turn down the GAME SHOW EXPERIENCE Trip Prize?
- A: You have the option not to claim GAME SHOW EXPERIENCE Trip Prize you have won. In that case the GAME SHOW EXPERIENCE Trip Prize will be awarded to an alternate entry. Once you submit a Promotional 2nd Chance Claim Form and it is approved, the GAME SHOW EXPERIENCE Trip Prize is considered to be claimed and may not be changed or refused after that point, and tax responsibility will be borne by the prize winner.
